Know Your Rights Camp

A Day Camp for Empowering Youth

What an honor to be invited to attend & document the second installment of philanthropist, activist & NFL player Colin Kaepernick's "Know Your Rights Camp" in New York City!  We spent most of the day observing, listening & photographing the event which featured workshops focusing on Self-Empowerment, Tips for Interacting with Law EnforcementHealth & Healthy Eating, Financial Literacy & the importance of Higher Education.

The kids also learned the history of the space we were in - formerly the Audubon Ballroom where Malcolm X was assassinated.  It was an eerie feeling to see the spotlight permanently fixed to the ceiling that, (when turned on) illuminates the spot where Malcolm was standing that day in 1965.  The energy was palpable.  The entire day felt like a beautiful homage & continuation of the mission to educate & inspire our youth.

Thank you to Colin & Nessa for inviting me to contribute to such an inspiring event!
